Right now, we all want to do what we can for one another. However, there are so many ways to help the community that it can be overwhelming just trying to figure out where to start. Everyone’s time and energy is limited so it’s hard to know what’s the best fit for you as an individual. That's why Travis Hellstrom is proud to present a few ideas to help you figure out your path forward when it comes to giving back to your community.
Community-First Careers
Some people have the skills and the drive to dedicate their lives to their community. Here are some careers that make that possible:
Low-income medical centers always need qualified nurses, doctors, and assistants to provide much-needed care for those who otherwise couldn’t afford it.
Every community needs certified teachers who can help to build the next generation as strong as possible. Online programs can help you get started.
You can use nearly any career path to pursue a role in a nonprofit organization. Here’s how to figure out which organizations are most effective in your community.
Local Legislation
Politicians need citizens to be involved and aware in order to know what’s best for the community:
Resolve to vote in all local elections -- your voice makes a big impact on this level.
Make an effort to meet your representatives, and voice your concerns about major issues in your community.
Join in community efforts to pass legislation that will build up neglected demographics in your area and foster equity.
Everyday Good
Finally, you can make a difference in your community through everyday acts of kindness:
When you go on walks, bring a bag you can use to pick up litter you find along the way.
Get to know your neighbors and the people in your community.
Donate to organizations like food pantries, animal shelters and other organizations that assist those in need.
We often forget that we rely on one another in order to thrive. It’s easy to feel like your efforts as an individual aren’t making a difference, but that’s far from true. Not only is your work in the community useful, but it also encourages those around you to join in. Never forget that we are strongest when we work together!
